These activities for Turkey Goes to School by Wendi Silvano are great to use during back to school season!
Feed the Turkey
This is a simple open-ended game you can play to work on any skill! All you need is the free printable and something to feed the turkey with, which can be anything. My kids liked using pompoms, but you can do any kind of manipulative you have on hand.
To play, they just practice their target goal (articulation words, WH questions about the story, retell, etc) and feed the turkey! You can also use it to do a get to know you activity with conversation starters.
Super Turkey
This is another fun (and free!) open-ended game, featuring a super turkey! Again, you can pair this one with any follow-up activity for the story. To play, you put all the cards in one pile in the center of the players. When it is their turn, students will practice their target, then draw a card from the pile. Whoever has the most points at the end of the game is the winner!
Book Companion
If you're looking for more targeted activities, I got you!
This book companion is slam full of ready-made activities that you can use across your caseload. It's all no prep, which will save you so much time during the busy back to school season.
WH Turkey
With this set of digital task cards, students will use inferencing and comprehension skills to answer WHO, WHAT, and WHERE questions about Turkey's new job!
This goes great with any of the Turkey books in this series because the turkey wears different costumes.
Easy Craft
I love a great EASY craft and this one is perfect! Just cut some circles and some strips of paper. Your students can add a costume to their turkey and write words on the feathers.
This is great for take-home articulation practice, but you can also do it with story grammar elements or vocabulary.
Free Lesson Plan
I shared this free book lesson plan with my book club last year! It is a book guide that includes discussion questions, a hands-on activity, vocabulary, and figurative language targets to go with the story

[…] The Turkey series by Wendi Silvano is one of my favorites and the kids always love them. This would be a fun choice to use at the beginning of the year because Turkey and his friends are trying to sneak into school with Farmer Jake's kids. Lots of great ideas to go with this one (that you could also use with the other Turkey books too!), check them out HERE. […]
