October is full of fun therapy with exciting themes and I’ve got my book list ready to share with you!The Hallo-Wiener by Dav Pilkey is not a favorite only because of the dachshund. Maybe. It’s such a great story about being the underdog, dealing with others making fun of you, and problem solving. I love the pragmatics you can target with this story! It is about the holiday, so if you can use that theme in your room, this is a fabulous choice!Kitten’s First Full Moon by Kevin Henkes is a favorite for my littlest students and I think it fits into October just right! The book is in all black and white with simple artwork, plus the kids just love the kitten. It’s got good vocabulary for basic concepts and it’s GREAT for working on sequencing and retell. You can check out my companion activities HERE.Stellaluna by Janell Cannon is one of my October go-to books year after year. Bats is a theme that just seems to work during this month 🙂 The story is about a baby bat who gets lost and ends up living with some birds. I love to use the characters to work on describing and compare/contrast concepts. It also has great tier 2 vocabulary. You can see of my activities for this story HERE.Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak is hands down my favorite children’s picture book. The illustrations are awesome and the story is just wonderful. I love working on antonyms and synonyms with this story because of the rich vocabulary, as well as making inferences. I think it’s perfect for October because of the costumes and imagination of the main characters, so if you can’t use Halloween themed activities, this is a good substitute! Here is a blog post I did a while back with a backstory about my love for this book.
That’s what we are reading in my room, what are you loving for October read alouds?
