People who come up with dumb stuff that entertains kids should be given more than my money. There should be awards. Really awesome awards. And this one just might take the cake…
Pigs. Teeny tiny cutie piggies. Don't call me crazy. The kids go completely bananas for these little pigs and will beg me to play. They will do anything I say. And that, my friends, is therapy gold.
The game itself is quite simple… roll the pigs, they land in a position, each position is worth points. I make them practice, then they take their turn, and at the end they add up their points. That means I'm targeting math AND speech. I've got competitive crazy kids who wanna rack up the points and will practice 50 speech words to get just one roll. Silly children….or smart SLP? You be the judge.
Check out Pass the Pigs on Amazon…best part? It's cheap! Seriously…does it get any better than this?
Do you play this game? What other silly games do your kids love?

I also have used this for years. Unfortunately I had to upgrade to the pig party because someone loved my cute little pigs so much that they took them 🙁 My students really like to play and think they are so cool!

Jen, I too have been using this game for 4-5 years, and my speech kids love it!
Another fun game that involves math (adding), and is quick and easy to use, is called “Cinqo”. Kids roll “5” gold dice and one purple, and add the numbers (or subtract up to 3) for a total amount. They keep rolling and adding after each speech turn. It is just as much fun!! A lot of bang for the buck!

Thanks Terri, I’ll have to check that one out too!

Another quick game that involves math that the kiddos love is called 1-12. You can just make a simple board (one for each student) with numbers listed from 1-12 in squares. They use something (i.e. penny, token, etc.) as their game piece and then roll two dice. They have to roll the number 1 to land on space one, then roll a 2, or numbers that equal 2, to land on space 2. Then you follow this sequential procedure through to 12 (you cannot skip numbers). The first person to get their game piece to 12 is the winner 🙂
