If there is any month that deserves a good craft, it's this one! I know school based educators are READY for winter break and it's survival at this point. These easy crafts are perfect for your speech sessions because they don't require a lot of time, can work for any goals, and will keep your students engaged!
How cute is this little gnome?! This craft is basically shapes, all you need is a triangle, half circle and an oval. I cut some slits to make his beard and glued it all together. Easy peasy! Students can make stories for their gnomes, discuss where they live and what they like to do.
This could be a Christmas tree or just a winter tree. It's made out of strips of paper, which your students can cut themselves and put into order from biggest to smallest. They could also decorate it by drawing lights, ornaments, or snow! It would go great with The Carpenter's Gift, Night Tree, or Red and Lulu.
This is an old favorite of mine, I loved doing this the week before break This reindeer is made from handprints and footprints! Students trace their foot (keep the shoe on) and their hand. The foot is the reindeer's face and the hands are his antlers. Pro tip: Trace one hand and cut two pieces of paper so you don't have to do it twice! My favorite reindeer book is The Wild Christmas Reindeer by Jan Brett.
This is a super fun activity that can go with any holiday or none at all. You just need black construction paper, a light shape, and chalk! Then you trace the light shape and smudge the lines so it looks like the lights are glowing. You can also have kids write target specific words with a white crayon inside the lights. Then draw a line to connect them all, like they are on a string! You could do this for candles too if you wanted to do Chanukah or Kwanzaa.
What other fun activities do you like to do in December?
