This snake craft was a really fun therapy activity and super easy to do. You can use it for so many themes, like Lunar New Year, forest, reptiles, or when working on /s/ clusters!
What do I need, Jenn? Well, you need colored strips of paper…I did not measure, just got a little crazy with the cutting board :D. I wanted to just do red, as that is the lucky color for Lunar New Year, but I knew I would have some kiddos that would want green. Really, you could do any color. If you have googly eyes, whip those out. It is of my personal belief that googly eyes make everything cooler. I also cut a few strips into smaller strips to make a tongue
Next up, we wrote speech words on each strip….minus the the head. They glued on their googly eyes and tongues. Then they practiced the word at their level and we added the loop to their snake with the stapler. For some of my older students, we used some reading passages about the Lunar New Year celebration to find words with their speech sounds.
Tada! The kids had so much fun making these and wanted to make them longer and longer, which was fine with me cause that meant more speech words! They took their snakes home to practice for speech homework this week.
What do you think of my snakes? Check back tomorrow to see what other fun activities we are doing this week to get ready for Lunar New Year!
